10-year old beheaded by gunmen in Nasarawa State

A 10-year old boy in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State was beheaded yesterday morning by gunmen.

According to witnesses, the gunmen invaded Dorowa camp in the area around 4am after laying an ambush for the residents  around daybreak and beheaded Abdullahi Ibrahim.

It was learnt that after beheading the boy, the attackers still went away with the head, leading to suspicion that it was for ritual purposes, creating tension in the village.

Reports from the area indicated that the father of the victim, Ibrahim Mohammed, had reported the case to the Divisional Police Office and investigations were said to have commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the invasion and killing of the 10-year- old boy.

Meanwhile, three persons have been arrested by the police in Lafia,  in connection with robbery on Lafia-Shendam road.

It was gathered that the suspects, Aminu Ibrahim, 27,  Ado Ibrahim and  Ado Adamu, both 18, were caught when trying to rob some people in the area.

It was learnt further that the police, while on patrol of Assakio-Shendam-Lafia around 8.40 p.m, suddenly stumbled on the trio, trying to dispossess unsuspecting people of their valuables. It was gathered that the robbers, having sighted the police, started shooting.

Informed source told this correspondent that during the gun duel, one of the robbers,  Aminu Ibrahim, was shot on right leg, while the remaining two were captured.

The state Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), ASP Cornelious Ocholi, who confirmed the incident at the Police Headquarters in Lafia, on Thursday, said locally-made pistol and single barrel guns, six handsets, seven SIM cards, two torches, as well as five cutlasses and one live cartridge were found at Ibrahim’s house when the police went there for a search.

In another related development, a middle-age man, Salisu (other name withheld), was reported to have beaten his first wife, Ladiya, to death over disagreement between the latter and his second wife.

The incident, which was said to have occured at Azara village in  Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, threw the  community into annihilation, as efforts of inhabitants to save her life proved abortive. She was said to have given up the ghost before she could be rushed to the hospital.

According to one of the witnesses, the two wives were fighting in the presence of their husband, but at the point the first wife started beating her rival, their husband stood up and started beating her until she collapsed.

It was also gathered  that Salisu, a farmer, having realised that the woman has died, took to his heels. It was further learnt that one of the village heads, Sarkin Jimy, who accompanied those who rushed the deceased to the clinic, reported the matter to the Divisional Police Office and officers had since begun a search for Salisu.
