18-year-old Nigerian Student Makes History At Howard University, Set To Start Ph.D

A Nigerian student has at the age of 18 when most students of her age are preparing for graduation from high school has graduated summa cum laude from Howard University with a degree in chemical engineering.

The Nigerian student, Nkechinyere Chidi-Ogbolu following her graduation has become the youngest person to graduate from the University this year and one of the youngest in Howard’s history.

Chidi-Ogbolu who has revealed her readiness to pursue her Ph.D. program at the University of California-Davis noted that she will commence her academic activity after the summer.

The Nigerian student will be studying biomedical engineering with a focus on creating and discovering new medicines.

She said: “I’ve always been interested in the medical field.”

Speaking to USA TODAY College, She added: “But I want to have a broader scale of an impact than in treating patients one-on-one.”

Chidi-Ogbolu further noted that she has always been the youngest person in her classes as she finished high school at the age of 14 after skipping 5th grade and proceeding to attend an accelerated high school.
