2 women docked for alleged defamation, criminal tresspass

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja, on Friday admitted Gift Samuel, 30 and Ezinne Uwaomah, 28, to bail in the sum of N20,000 each for alleged joint act, criminal trespass and defamation of character.

The defendants who reside in Idugbagyi Karmo, Abuja, had however pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge levelled against them.

The presiding officer, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, ordered the defendants to each produce a surety who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and have means of livelihood.

He adjourned hearing in the matter till Jan. 31.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu told the court that one Charity Okafor, of same address with the defendants reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Jan. 3.

Dalhatu said that the complainant reported that the defendants allegedly defamed her character in August 2016.

He said that on Jan. 3, Okafor reported that the defendants again accused her of being a witch and that she had initiated her six year old daughter into witchcraft.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 79, 348 and 392 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
