A Kano Magistrates’ Court sitting on Zungeru Road on Monday remanded a 20-year-old teacher, Abubakar Sadiq, in prison custody for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl.
Sadiq was charged with rape.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Idris, gave the order after the accused pleaded not guilty.
Idris adjourned the case till Dec. 14 for further mention.
The prosecutor, Mr Badamasi Gawuna, told the court that one Saude Yusuf of Sharada Quarters, Kano reported the case to Sharada Police Division, Kano, on Sept. 21.
Gawuna said that on Sept. 19, the girl went to school at Umar Bin Khattab Primary School, Kano and about 11 a.m, the accused of the same address and teacher in the same school allegedly lured her to an empty classroom.
The prosecutor alleged that Sadiq instructed her to lie down and remove her pant and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her which caused her harm.
He said that the minor was rushed to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Kano for treatment.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the penal code. (NAN)
