The Supervisory Minister for Education, Nyesom Wike has said that the All Progressives Congress could not win the mandate of the Rivers people come 2015. He blamed the crisis in the State on the governor’s insistence on belonging to the opposition party and said it was against the wishes of the people of the State.

Speaking to Channels Television yesterday, Wike said, “Amaechi is trying to force his will on Rivers people. When you are given a mandate and that mandate is given to you by the people, you must also do something that will make the people to go along with you.

“The Rivers State Crisis is based on decisions that the governor has taken to lead Rivers State to an opposition, which has not happened since 1967 when the state was created.”

“APC is suffering from delusions of grandeur. The people of Rivers State cannot be convinced not to vote for their son (Jonathan). Forget the creation of Bayelsa State, the people of Rivers State see the president as their son.”

Wike said the President is not involved in the crisis and neither is the first lady.

“If the president is so desperate as Amaechi is trying to portray him; Rivers State is not the only state where the governor is opposing the president, it is happening in some other PDP states. So, why is there crisis in only Rivers State?”

Rivers people, he said contributed more than 2 million votes to Jonathan’s tally in 2015 whilst Amaechi could only get more than a million votes.
