2016 Budget Will Bring Massive Change To Education – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that investment in education by his administration would begin to manifest with the passage of the 2016 budget.

The president made the remark on Saturday in a message to the 25th Convocation of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna.

He said that the administration would bring about massive changes in the education sector to provide qualitative education to majority of Nigerians.

“This administration is placing high premium on education and agriculture.

“Our decision to invest in infrastructure to support reforms in education and agriculture, solid minerals sector for our economic revival, offers an opportunity to specialized universities like FUT Minna,” he said.

Buhari, who was represented by a Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Chenga Gandy, added that education took the highest portion of the recurrent expenditure of the budget.

He said the recruitment of the 500,000 degree and NCE graduates would also kick off immediately the 2016 appropriation is signed into law.

Also, Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger, said his administration would collaborate with the university in areas of agriculture and solid mineral, to create jobs for the youth and eradicate poverty.

He called for synergy between the university and its host communities for the development of the state.

Bello disclosed that the state-owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, would soon commence programme in Medical Science.

He added that a Nursing school would also be establish in Kontagora Local Government of the state.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Musbua Akanji, extolled the virtues of the immediate past Chancellor of the university, Godwin Emiko, describing him as easy going and responsible.

He expressed optimism that the new chancellor, would bring in his wealth of experience to bear on the development of the university.

Akanji said a total of 3, 505 students graduated in the 2014/2015 academic session.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that the new Chancellor, Eze Eberechi is the Chairman, Abia Traditional Rulers Council. (NAN)
