2019 is certain, Go to the market and ask how APC is faring – PDP Chairman

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has stated that Nigerians are suffering from absence of governance under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makarfi disclosed this in an interview with Independent newspapers in Abuja.

Makarfi told Independent, “PDP will take back its position as the ruling party of this country.

“We will continue to pray to God because He has been answering our prayers that APC continues to oppose itself, because they have been effective as being a very good opposition party to themselves. That is what they are used to. You can see dislocation everywhere in the party.

“The party is not in tune with government; the National Assembly is not in tune with the executive and all sorts of things. Also, they missed the opportunity to do well; so Nigerians themselves have not waited for the political party to oppose; the voters themselves are opposing.

“We have a very limited time before the next general elections and now with crisis in our party over, we will quickly put our house in order and reconcile our members as much as we can. But, we will not finish until we conclude reconciliation before we give credible opposition.”

Makarfi stressed: “You know better when you go to the market and ask this question. We (Nigerians) have fared very, very badly. Of course, in some respect, when you look at the conflict in the North East, it’s an improvement on what the PDP has achieved.

“Some people are thinking that it is the APC government that achieved the level of success in the North-East. That is false because if the PDP government had not succeeded, the election couldn’t have taken place peacefully there.

“People tend to forget that the 2015 elections took place in all parts of the country peacefully. So, if the PDP government had not succeeded in recording successes in the North-East against Boko Haram, no election could have taken place there.

“Of course, the APC government has added bits of successes here and there… But, when you look at the level of kidnapping, conflicts and agitations going on, of course, people have fundamental rights to agitate. But, the current national agitation is what we have not witnessed before under any democratic government especially since 1999.

“So, it’s all part of absence of governance so to say. The government is contradicting itself; principal officers of government keep contradicting one another. That shows serious disunity and disunited government cannot take the country anywhere.”
