30% of Zamfara Residents have Malaria – MAP

Malaria Action Program for States (MAPS) has estimated that 30 per cent of people living in Zamfara state have Malaria.

A Consultant with the project, Mr Umar Garba, made this statement in Gusau while briefing stakeholders on the importance of using treated mosquito nets.

He said Four million out of the 4.3 million people in Zamfara are at risk of contacting the deadly disease caused by mosquitoes and Malaria is mostly common against women and children.

Garba said MAPS is currently working on distributing 2.6 Million Mosquito nets. He explained that at least one in two people in the state will have access to insecticide treated mosquito nets.

He further stated that the nets will be distributed across the 147 wards in the state in August this year.
