Afghan Car Blast Kills Over 30, Injures 60

About 30 persons have been reportedly killed when a car bomb exploded outside a bank in Lashkar Gah in the southern province of Helmand.

 

The incident, according to Aljazeera, also had more than 60 persons wounded New Kabul Bank branch with many of the victims,  civilians.

 

It was gathered that the blast took place at about noon local were as civilians and some members of security agencies waited to collect money.

 

 

Further reports indicate that the blast tore vehicles, leaving the place in plume of smoke in the sky; just as charred waste littered the area.

 

The area was believed to have had a large number of persons due to the upcoming Islamic holidays, marking the end of the Ramadan Fast.

 

Aljazeera reports that the place had been previously targeted since it is were secuity personnel are paid.

 

“It handles salary payments for security forces,” said Rob McBride, a reporter for the outfit.  “Because it has been targeted before, it does have very tight security. But there’s only so much you can do with a car bomb outside.”

 

Recall that about  three lives were lost with several others wounded in an attack on a bank in the eastern city of Gardez.
