L’Oréal Paris ambassador, Sir John, is the makeup guru behind some of today’s most influential beauty icons including Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss and Beyonce.

In an interview with ELLE,  the King of glowing skin, Sir John, shared these tips about how to look good with or without makeup.

Sir john recommends using a good mask

1. Skin care is key

“I can’t stress this enough, but keeping your skin hydrated is extremely important. Not only does it help your skin just look and feel better, but your makeup will glide on. So moisturize, moisturize, moisturize,” says Sir John.

He recommends L’Oréal’s Pure Clay Mask, REN’s Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask, and Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir. “These three products will have your skin prepped and ready to go in no time.

 2. Mild is good

“Start light and build the coverage you need. That way you cover those imperfections but the skin still shines through and you’ve created a totally natural look.” He suggests using “a great water-based moisturizer, such as L’Oréal Paris’ Bright Reveal Brightening Day Moisturizer SPF 30” and then following up with a tinted moisturizer with SPF that’s “light and breathable.” And then spot conceal where necessary.

3. Glow without shining

“My one piece of advice for applying product is to stay away from using anything that creates shine on the center of the face—the center of the face should always stay matte.” That way, when you take pictures straight on you won’t look oily or shiny.

“However, I love to use luminizing products; L’Oréal’s Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer is great around the edge of the face to give it some brilliance and radiance so you look glowy and dewy but in a totally natural way.” he said.

4. Wash your face

“Always take off makeup at night. It doesn’t matter if you’re dead tired or drunk; take your makeup off before bed.” He also suggests “using a cleaning device to get skin super-duper clean and a fruit enzyme peel once a week.”

5. It’s a complete package

Finally, Sir John reveals that; juicing, an anti-inflammatory diet, and working up a sweat at least 20 minutes a day are all necessary for glowing skin. “I’m really holistic when it comes to skin care—it really starts on the inside,” he says.

“I’m a huge fan of eating healthy to make sure your skin is getting the vitamins and nutrients it needs to look its best. I always tell my clients to drink a carrot juice before a big event because you will see the results literally overnight.”
