There was a boycott of the Okoko/CMS route by bus drivers as they protested the death of their colleague allegedly at the hands of a Mobile Police officer.

The Vanguard reports that the man who was killed simply called Fatai, was hit by a stray bullet from a Mobile policeman , at Doyin bus-stop in Orile area of Lagos.

The identity of the policeman has yet to be revealed, but it was reported that he was escorting a jeep and the trigger happy policeman shot in the air to disperse vehicles only for one of the bullets to hit Fatai, killing him.

The Vanguard reports that one of Fatai’s friends said, “Our friend and colleague, Fatai , popularly called Oshe was killed by a Mobile policeman on Sunday. He died leaving behind a wife and five children. Who will take care of them?”

An eyewitness on the scene tried to explain what happened, “ I was attending to some customers when we heard some gun shots. Everyone ran away, thinking it was a robbery operation, but by the time the whole place was calm, we were told that a man who was hit by a stray bullet fired by a Mobile policeman was lying in the pool of his blood. ”

It was reported that on realising what he’d done, the Policeman responsible fled the scene leaving the person he was supposed to be escorting.

While the Policeman was able to flee, the occupant of the jeep wasn’t so lucky and he was taken by people in the area and taken to the police station. The corpse was first taken to the police station before being moved away.
