Adamawa House of Assembly has ordered the immediate suspension of work on Labondo-Koh-Goron road project being handled by Hydro Source and Resources Nigeria Ltd., over alleged shoddy execution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the road was part of N1.2 billion World Bank assisted rural roads project awarded to the company under the Rural Access Mobility Project (RAMP-2).

The chairman of the House Committee on Rural Infrastructure and Development, Alhaji Mohammed Maikanti, gave the directive during the committee’s oversight visit to the site on Tuesday.

Maikanti said the committee was not satisfied with the way the company was handling the project, particularly the level of culverts and soil being used for filling.

He said that sample of the soil should be sent to the laboratory for testing to confirm whether it is good for road construction before the company should be allowed to resume work.

Also speaking, the Majority Leader, who is also a member of the committee, Mr Hassan Barguma (APC-Hong), said the committee was disappointed with the contractor.

He said the committee was also disappointed with the consultant and the ministry for not doing their job of proper monitoring to ensure that the work is done according to specification.

“We as representative of the people will not allow this to continue, we will stand firm and make sure that the right thing is done,” Barguma said.

Mr Lumsambani Dilli (PDP-Demsa), from the constituency, said his people were not happy with the quality and level of work done so far.

“As representative of the people going to use this road, we want to express our disappointment and to say that we are not going to take it,” Dilli said.

The site engineer, who took the committee round the project, Emmanuel Thomson, said the company was doing it best and that the soil being used was okay for such rural road construction.

Thomson said that the company would soon do the necessary sand filling for the road to take proper shape as expected by the committee.
