An Iranian commercial plane in southern Iran on Sunday, killing all on board a total of 66 people.
The plan was an Aseman Airlines ATR-72, a twin-engine turboprop used for short-distance regional flying, it developed a problem near its destination the southern Iranian city of Yasuj, 485 miles (780 kilometres) south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Mohammad Taghi Tabatabai the Aseman Airlines spokesman told state TV that all on Flight No. 3704 were killed. The plane carried 60 passengers, including one child, and six crew members.
Rescue helicopters struggled and were unable to reach the crash site in the Zagros Mountains due to foggy condition. Tabatabai stated that the plane crashed into Mount Dena, which is about 1,440-feet (440 metres) tall.
Aseman Airlines is a semi-private air carrier headquartered in Tehran that specializes in flights to remote airfields across the country. It also flies internationally.
Authorities said they would be investigating and the Iranian Red Crescent has deployed to the area.
Due to decades of international sanctions, Iran’s commercial passenger aircraft fleet has aged, with air accidents occurring regularly in recent years.
Iran signed deals with both Airbus and Boeing to buy scores of passenger planes worth tens of billions of dollars after the 2015 landmark nuclear deal with world powers.
The U.S expressed concern’s about the airplane sales to Iran.
