Aisha Buhari Discloses Why She Considered Not Supporting Buhari For 2nd Term

Mrs. Aisha Buhari has revealed her reason for threatening her husband with a sit out from campaigning if he were to declare for a second term.

According to Mrs. Buhari, she credited her sense of justice for this decision as she said the Nigerian people only deserved the very best and while she has confidence in her husband, she is more sceptical of the people around him.

She said this in a statement accepting an award from Vanguard Newspaper as person of the year.

While she has not stated whether she would be supporting her husband’s bid for a second term in office now that he has actually indicated interest, she has stated that she still holds true to her criticisms from back then.

Sometime in 2016, Aisha Buhari had said that she would not be supporting a second term bid for her husband unless he made some changes in his cabinet and also changed some of the existing policies.

That has not happened and it would be interesting to see how that affects Mrs. Buhari’s support especially since she was responsible for a lot of the votes the President received from the female demographic.

Accepting the Vanguard award she said; “One of the reasons adduced for honouring me was the interview I granted which some people saw as criticism to a government that I am part of,” she was quoted as saying in the statement circulated by her media aide Suleiman Haruna. “I need to state that my position was a result of my sense of justice and not confrontation or disrespect. I was brought up to stand by the truth and this is how I have always been,”

She added “As we are all aware, Nigerians elected this administration based on the trust and confidence they have on my husband.

“I, therefore, feel that we are here to serve Nigeria to the best of our ability. Let me use this opportunity to state that I support my husband in this call to service and will continue to do so,”
