Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), said fight against corruption and insecurity were President Muhammadu Buhari’s greatest achievements in his two years in office.
Director of the organisation, Ms Idayat Hassan, said that a survey, “Buharimeter Citizens’ Scorecard’’ conducted by the body revealed that the government’s strength was in the twokey areas.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that 52 per cent of Nigerians expressed satisfaction with the government’s anti-corruption fight.
“Similarly, over four in every 10 respondents are of the opinion that corruption has decreased with the current administration in comparison to the past administration.’’
Hassan said that 47 per cent of Nigerians admitted that they were aware of the government’s whistle-blowing policy, with 76 per cent believing that it was a good measure that encouraged the reporting of corrupt practices.
She said that 39 per cent of Nigerians voted the government low in management of the country’s economy.
Specifically, she said that 82 per cent of respondents in the South-East and 59 per cent in South-South rated the government low in governance.
The director said that on promises relating to security, half of the sampled population believed that security in the country had improved from what it was a year ago.
She, however, said that 28 per cent of the respondents said that the security situation had remained the same, while 21 per cent believed that it had worsened.
Hassan said the survey identified politically-induced conflicts, land disputes, religious conflicts, and farmer and pastoral conflicts among common causes of conflicts in parts of the country.
She said that the survey revealed that about 55 per cent of Nigerians, particularly in the North-West, believed that the government was doing enough on the Chibok girls’ issue.
In the contrary, she said that 35 per cent of the people held that the government was not doing enough.
Hassan added that a great percentage of Nigerians voted for dialogue in addressing Boko Haram insurgency, herdsmen-farmers conflict and militancy in the country. (NAN)
