The Nigerian government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari who assumed office on the All Progressive Congress, APC party platform in 2015 has re-launched the YOUWIN program for unemployed youth in the country.

The move by the federal government comes as part of its initiative to mop up the number of unemployed persons in the country, a population which has been described to be growing at an alarming rate.

However, the new batch of the YOUWIN program comes with a clause as it is devoid of the grants which was the highlight of the previous edition of the empowerment program.

The Nigerian government through the Ministry of Finance in its published advertorial stated that the program will only be available for graduates between the ages of 18 and 40 adding that the persons applying for the program must be a Nigerian national resident in the country. Other eligibility criteria as published by the Finance Ministry include:

Applicants businesses must be domiciled in Nigeria.
Applicants must be able to communicate effectively – speaking and writing – in English.
Applicants must be willing to attend all trainings and mentoring exercises organized by the programme.
Applicants must not be an employee of the Nigerian Civil Service.
Previous YouWiN awardees are not eligible to apply.

Seeing as the re-launched program is devoid of any grant for the YOUWIN applicants, Nigerians took to their social media page to react to the APC led government’s plan to revive the earlier criticized program.
