Army Hands Over 244 Repentant Boko Haram Insurgents To Borno Govt

The Nigerian Army has handed over to the Borno State Govt 244 Boko Haram insurgents who repented from the group.

The handover was part of activities marking the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in the state which held at the Military Cemetery, Maiduguri on Monday.

Among the repentant insurgents are 56 women, 118 adult male, 19 under aged persons and 51 children.

At the event, Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicholas said the ex-insurgents were released after due diligence was done to ascertain the sincerity of their repentance.

He added that the release was done with the approval of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.

The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, commended the military for its de-radicalisation efforts in the state.
