Arsenal, Liverpool In Six-Goal Thriller

2 Min Read

Three goals in less than five minutes ensured Arsenal snatched a point against Liverpool at the Emirates.

The Gunners benefitted from horrible defending from the Liverpool backline early in the second half to put three past Simon Mignolet, despite being two goals down at the time.

Liverpool had looked set to humiliate Arsenal at home with commanding displays from the likes of Mo Salah, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

A 27th-minute defensive howler from Arsenal’s Mathieu Kosielny allowed Coutinho to head home Liverpool’s first, before Salah doubled the lead from close range in the 52nd minute.

But three goals in the 53rd, 56th and 58th minutes from Alexis Sanchez, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil respectively ensured Arsenal clawed back from what looked a sure defeat.

Firmino saved what could have been a very embarrassing result for manager Jurgen Klopp with a fine effort from range in the 71st minute that bounced agonisingly into the Arsenal net after coming off Petr Cech.

With the result, Liverpool sit 4th on the league table with 35 points and Arsenal are 5th with 34 points after 19 games each.

An unlikely win against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday could see sixth-placed Burnley displace Arsenal in fifth.
