Arsene Wenger clears Alex Iwobi for Rio Olympics participation

Arsenal FC manager, Arsene Wenger has cleared the club’s youth striker, Alex Iwobi to represent Nigeria at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games if he receives a national call-up.

Although FIFA stated clearly that European clubs are not mandated to release players for the tournament in Rio since the timing of the games is outside the calendar for international matches, Arsene Wenger however assured that the club’s striker is free to honour his nation’s call.

He said: “We have to respect his choice. He had the choice between England and Nigeria and in the end he chose Nigeria,”

Adding that: “We respect that, and also the possibility that he will go to the Olympic Games and travel a bit more than he would have done here.

“We have to respect that.” He quipped.
