Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told club officials that he will indeed sign a new contract, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

Paris Saint-Germain remain great admirers of Wenger and the football played under his stewardship at Emirates Stadium, and have long coveted his signature.

The Ligue 1 giants’ Qatari owners also appreciate the advisory role he performed for them when they took over at Parc des Princes, but Wenger has given his word to the Gunners board that he will renew his deal.

“I never go back on it,” Wenger is reported to have said.

While Arsenal look set to once again finish the campaign in fourth place, they have still led the Premier League for longer than any other team this season, with injuries to the likes of Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere derailing their title charge rather than their manager.

If Wenger can help his team win the FA Cup final against Hull City and finish in fourth place, it will be a sign of real progress being made at Arsenal.

Furthermore, the mistakes of previous transfer markets cannot be made again, with a new centre forward top priority, and additional top quality reinforcements in the vein of Mesut Ozil required.

Still, Wenger has done enough over the last 18 years to earn the chance to prove himself once again, and a contract extension will give him and Arsenal that opportunity.
