‘Asari Dokubo capable of disuniting Nigeria’ – Lagos Rep tells Jonathan

More critics of controversial Ijaw personality, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo have come to the fore, the latest being Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity Chairman, Honourable Segun Olulade.

Olulade has pleaded with President Jonathan to call Dokubo to order over his recent remarks after the assassination attempt on the life of Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

Tribune reports

Olulade, who expressed surprise that Asari-Dokubo had not even spared elder statesmen and national figures in his “array of insults against them,” said such attitude as demonstrated by Asari-Dokubo was capable of disuniting the nation.

“Asari-Dokubo has demonstrated attitude capable of disuniting the nation by overbearing his ethnic sentiments in addressing national issues. I cannot imagine statements uttered by Asari-Dokubo in view of life-threatening attack on General Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna last week.

“If the attacker had succeeded, I don’t think Asari- Dokubo will have a ground to be saying what he said because by now, the nation might have been drifted into serious ethnic crisis capable of consuming the unity of the country,” Olulade said.

Honourable Olulade said he was more worried that each time Asari-Dokubo made inflammatory statements the president looked the other way.

Olulade said he was even surprised to learn that sometimes the militant leader took to the pages of social media to threaten President Jonathan to dare national figures and take to hard measures on them particularly in the opposition.

“My message to Asari-Dokubo is that Nigeria is a nation of ethnic variables, but the status of president of the country or any national political office holder transcends ethnic interest, and the earlier Asari-Dokubo realises this, the better.

“With the magnitude of challenges the nation is facing, and the general elections getting closer, I think the president needs to douse all ethnic excesses beginning from his kinsman so that Mr President will be dissociated from Asari-Dokubo’s utterances since many Nigerians insulted by Asari-Dokubo have perceived that he is speaking Mr President’s mind,” he said.

While concluding, Olulade, while saying that the leader of Niger-Delta Peoples Volunteers Force had taken a flight away from peace building, noted that his recent pronouncements over Broughtbackourgirls Advocacy Group and attack on General Buhari were all condemnable and unpopular.
