The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday passed into Law a bill to establish the State Budget and Planning Commission.

While reading the bill for the third time, the Speaker, Aminu Shagali said the commission would replace the Ministry of Budget and Planning.

Shagali said under the commission, a state economic planing board and local government planning committees would be established.

“Also the primary focus of the bill would be enhancement of planning, budget process, and formulation of economic policies.”

He added that the commission would provide guidance and oversight to local councils on issues of planning, budget and economic development.

The speaker explained that the commission would prepare and review annual and multi-year budget for the state, monitor and evaluate state development plans and performance of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

“It would provide guidelines, advice and give support to MDAs in relation to planning, budgeting, monitoring, review, and policy implementation.”

According to him, the commission would appoint, promote and discipline all its officers and determine their condition of service.

Speaking to newsmen after the assembly’s sitting, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Nuhu Shadalafiya said the commission would serve as a data base for planning activities in the state.

“Whenever a programme is coming up, by the pitch of a hand you will know what is in Ikara, Kubau, and what is in Kaduna North and South that would give actual benefits to people.”(NAN)
