The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Bayero University Kano chapter, is to meet on Wednesday to deliberate on the decision reached between its leaders and the Federal Government.

The BUK ASUU branch chairman, Dr Ibrahim Barde disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.

“Yes, the National body of our union has called off the strike but at our branch level we have to meet to communicate the decision to our members.

“So we will meet on Wednesday (tomorrow) after which we will call off the strike at our branch level,” Barde said.

He said the Wednesday’s meeting will give members of the branch the opportunity to review the agreement reached between the union and the Federal Government before calling off the strike.

Asked when the lecturers will resume work, the ASUU branch chairman said it is the responsibility of the university authorities to fix the date for the reopening of the university for academic activities.

NAN reports that despite the calling off of the strike by the ASUU national body, lecturers and students are yet to return to the campus.

A NAN Correspondent, who visited the university around 11:30a.m., observed that only few students were in the school while none of the lecturers were in the school.
