If feelers from Akwa Ibom state are to be believed, the government of the state may have course to worry.

The Akwa Ibom state government led by Governor Udom Emmanuel has been given a seven-day ultimatum by ex-militants under the aegis of the Bakassi Freedom Fighters in the state to honour an agreement to empower them under the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

According to spokesperson of the group, Commander Ebong Friday, during a chat with the Niger Delta Voice (NDV) in Eket, the group would disrupt the activities to mark the 28th Anniversary celebration of the creation of the state if the state government continued to renege on the promise to empower them.

Furthermore, Friday said the group would resort to disruption of activities at the Ibom International Airport and ExxonMobil, and the vandalism of pipelines of Frontier Oil Limited.

He said: “The Akwa-Ibom state government has neglected our members since we dropped our arms to embrace the Federal Government Amnesty Programme.

We have waited this long to see whether the state government would see reasons to empower us to become independent so that we do not remember the past but government seems to have only deceived us.”
