Barcelona Shatter Real Madrid’s Scoring Record In A Calendar Year

On a night Lionel Messi made his 500th appearance for the Spanish champions, Barcelona broke Real Madrid’s record of most goals scored in a calendar year.

The Galacticos had set the record of 178 goals in 2014, but the Blaugrana’s 4-0 demolition of Real Betis ensured that they matched and also surpassed the record. They now have 180 goals.

While the trio of Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar scored 75 percent of the goals, they had 48, 48 and 41 respectively.

With a day to go in the year, the Catalan club finish the year with 180 goals, 5 trophies and 51 wins.

The club also finishes top of the league table going into the new year, with 38 points in 16 games.

Messi’s goal of the night was his 425th for the club.
