Bayelsa Kidnappers Release Nigerian, Detains Koreans

The gunmen who kidnapped five employees of Hyundai Fabrication Company a Chinese firm on Monday at Okpoama, Brass Local Government Area of the state, have released the only Nigerian that was among those kidnapped.

Austin Giwa, the only Nigerian who was kidnapped alongside four Koreans, was dropped at the mangrove swamps of Odioma along the Okpoama waterways.

Giwa was freed when he identified himself as a Nigerian from Brass Local government at about 5:30pm.

According to an eye witness report, “A woman who was fishing saw where he was tied and abandoned and went to rescue him. She took him to the police station where he made a statement.”

Although, the abductors have still not made known their motives, the Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the development and said the police were still on the trail of the kidnappers.
