BBC Reporter Slams Lai Mohammed Over Dapchi Girls

A BBC Reporter Stephanie Hegarty was severely critical of the Minister for Information Lai Mohammed after he released a statement relating to golf in the midst of the Dapchi girls crisis.

Hegarty felt it was in poor form for a representative of the federal government to not show the concern necessary in a situation like this.

She took to her Twitter page to slam the minister saying: “Ten days after the Dapchi attack and 110 school children are still missing, meanwhile Nigeria’s Minister of Information is sending out press releases about golf.”

The minister had in an earlier statement tried to rally support for golfing in Nigeria as it is currently a sport that isn’t very popular. He hoped that with more interest in the sport, then the prize money for golfing tournaments in the country can be raised.

He said; “The West Africa Golf Tour speaks for the commitment that I hold, as the minister of Information and Culture, for the promotion of Nigeria’s rich tourism potentials.

“It showcases Nigeria to the world -our golf courses, natural surroundings and cities as well as our culture, thereby putting Nigeria, West Africa and Africa in the limelight and helping to advance the efforts to improve our image and economy,”
