Katsina State Governor, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari has expressed his dismay over the use of over 24,000 health personnel across the hospitals in the state as casual workers.

He showed his concern while commissioning the state secretariat of the Association of Nurses and Midwives on Wednesday.

According to him “it is unfortunate that about 60 per cent of 24, 000 health workers in the state were employed as casual workers by the previous administration.”

He also lamented the shortage of health personnel in 22 general hospitals and primary health institutions at various local government areas in the state.

Masari, however, said his administration had come up with measures to address the problem by employing the required number of health personnel.

According to him, plan is underway to provide all necessary facilities and drugs in all hospitals across the state.

Masari, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, warned health personnel against negligence and malpractice in the discharge of their duties.

“I call on the members of the association as partners in progress to assist the government in identifying cases of negligence and malpractice and bring them to the fore for appropriate disciplinary action,” he said.

Masari assured the association that his administration would run an open door policy for their suggestion and advice.
