A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr Olisa Agbakoba, has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration of incompetence.

Agbakoba, who spoke with journalists over the weekend, also said that President Buhari lacked understanding of how government should be run.

He equally accused the president of “sleeping on the job,” adding that “government’s work is misunderstood even by the President . He doesn’t understand the nature of how to run a government.”

Agbakoba noted that the government was underperforming because of the incompetence of most members of the cabinet.

He said that while some of the ministers were brilliant men, they are not a good fit for the positions they occupy in the government.

The prominent lawyer identified Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama as examples of ordinarily brilliant men occupying the wrong posts.

He cited an example of the high recurrent expenditure in the nation’s 2017 budget to back up his claim that the President does not understand the working of government.

He said, “The current budget is about N8 trillion; 70 per cent is for recurrent expenditure, that means salaries.

“Now, only three million people in Nigeria, working with the Federal Government, ‘chop’ all that money to the exclusion of the 180 million people. So, where’s the fairness? Three million people and 70 per cent, and the remainder 30 per cent for 180 million people.”
