Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has declared his total support for the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
He also called on Nigeria’s past leaders to follow suit and support Buhari.
Gowon who made the declaration in an interaction with the Voice of America (VOA) noted that his support for Buhari is in line with his outstanding qualities of trust, sincerity and commitment, stressing that these characteristics are good examples of leadership qualities.
He said Buhari’s honesty has indeed qualified him to preside over the affairs of the country and as such he should embrace everyone irrespective of sectional or religious differences.
He said, “I will support Buhari’s government and I call on other past Presidents and Heads of state to throw their weight behind him because he possesses leadership qualities that would help to transform the country know him even before he became the head of government. He was very determining.”
“I also call on him to take everyone alone without segregation of any kind among Nigerians.”
Also in the interview, the former Head of State assured that whenever there is need for counseling, he would advice Buhari on key issues, adding that people should not castigate him (Buhari) because of political differences.
Gowon however commended the out-going president, for his sportsmanship and for conceding defeat at the just concluded presidential election, thanking Nigerians for shunning violence during and after the exercise.
