Following the news which surfaced as regards the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt. General Tukur Buratai’s ownership of two Dubai-based properties valued at N4.3 billion ($1.5 million), the Nigerian Army may have started plans into investigating the source of the controversial properties disclosure.
Recall that the Nigerian Army had debunked rumours that the properties were acquired illegally stating that Buratai had owned the properties before he assumed office.
Corroborating the Nigerian Army, the Defence Minister, Brig-Gen. Muhammad Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd) said: “It is on record that Lt-Gen. Buratai has declared his assets as Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force and as Chief of Army Staff to the Code of Conduct Bureau. These facts are verifiable with the Bureau”.
However, according online news agency, Independent, sources have confirmed that the Department of State Security (DSS) may have placed about 25 of the 50 officers sacked from the Nigerian military over corrupt practices on surveillance.
The surveillance of the compulsorily retired ex-officers is in line with speculations that they may be behind the disclosure which is currently making rounds.
