Three female and one male suicide bombers believed to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect on Saturday blew themselves up, killing at least four civilians and injuring scores in Cameroon.

According to security sources, the attacks occurred in the village of Nigue, a suburb of Fokotol town, in Cameroon.

A senior Cameroonian security official, who pleaded anonymity, said: “The first kamikaze detonated his bomb in the house of the traditional chief of Leymarie. Five people died including the bomber.

“Several minutes later, three female bombers exploded their bombs close to the initial site but they didn’t kill anyone else because they acted too quickly.”

The official also said that at least a dozen were wounded in the attack. Leymarie is a part of the village of Nigue.

Cameroon is contributing a substantial number of soldiers to the 8,700-strong force to fight the jihadists later this year.

Boko Haram since its first attacks in Nigeria in 2009 has extended its campaign of terror to neighbouring states of Cameroon, Chad and Niger, killing tens of thousands and displacing millions.
