Cameroon stop Nigeria from qualifying for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s Flamingoes on Sunday failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals scheduled for Uruguay in November.

After a 2-2 draw at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin a fortnight ago, the Cameroonians forced the Flamingoes to a 1-1 draw at the Ahmadu Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundee

The draw in Yaounde meant a 3-3 aggregate result, but Nigeria crashed out on the away goals rule since Cameroon scored twice in Benin and Nigeria scored only once away.

This means Nigeria will be missing out at the competition for the first time since its inception in 2008.

Cameroonian Alice Kameni opened scoring with a16th minute strike while Nigeria’s Precious Martha got the equaliser eight minutes to the end of the game.

Cameroon will now be advancing to the mundial as one of Africa’s representatives.(NAN)
