Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is unhappy with the striking options that he has available to him at the moment and hinted that he could look to sign a top forward.

“I don’t think we are the big contenders of any competition,” the Blues boss told BBC Radio 5 live.

“We don’t have the striker who is going to score 30 goals in the league.”

“We know we don’t have that striker we used to call the killer, the selfish one, the one that gives the last touch.”

Chelsea have scored 32 times this season, but only five of those were contributed by Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba – while Romelu Lukaku continues to find the back of the net regularly on loan at Everton.

Upon being asked whether Chelsea would attempt to buy a forward in January, Mourinho appeared to make things clear.

“No. They are not available,” said the Portuguese boss.

“They are in the big clubs, they are in the clubs with big ambitions and big clubs with big ambitions don’t sell their top selfish ones.”

However, given the reported unsettled nature of Radamel Falcao at AS Monaco, that situation may change if the opportunity arises.

Otherwise, it seems a certainty that Chelsea will enter the transfer market for a striker next summer.
