CJ Pardons 3 Inmates In Okene Prisons

Kogi state Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, has ordered the immediate release of three inmates awaiting trial at the Okene Medium Security Prison.

Justice Ajanah released the trio on Thursday while reviewing cases of 68 awaiting trial inmates at the prison.

He also granted bail to six others, including a nursing mother.

He frowned at indiscriminate detention of accused persons and the inability of the prosecution to give good reasons for their continued detention.

Those released were Farouk Momoh, Jimoh, Samuel Lucky and Shaibu Salisu, all standing trial for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

The nursing mother, Saanu and her husband, Jimoh Onuya, who were alleged to have killed their son in November, 2011, were standing trial for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

The chief judge granted bail to Saanu who had been in remand with an eight-month-old baby in the sum of N10, 000 and a surety in like sum.

He said that prison facilities were not suitable for the mother and upbringing of the child.
