While members of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA) in the area claimed that the ID card was found at a killing site, the Plateau State Chapter of MACBAN said Irigwe youths stole the ID card from Idris’s house which they allegedly attacked while he was in the mosque praying.

IDA President, Sunday Abdu told The Punch that the ID card and telephone handsets belonging to Idris were recovered from the scene of the killing, while the exhibits had been handed over to police for investigation.

“ He left this document inside his own house , and they entered and picked it and then went away with it . The man was running for his life .

“The incident happened on Wednesday morning . You know , they were attacked very early in the morning before 6 : 00am. He was in the mosque when they were attacked and he was unable to return to his house.

“That was how they picked the documents , including the certificates of his children , indigene ’ s certificates of his wife and children , his (MACBAN ) identity card , vehicle documents and other personal items.

“He has reported to the Police and the report has been documented.”

However, the Plateau State Police Command refused to reveal whether Idris reported the purported loss of the ID card, saying the matter was a sensitive one.

The command spokesman, Matthias Tyopev, said the truth would be uncovered at the end of investigations into the matter.
