An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court in Ekiti on Tuesday dissolved an 11-year-old marriage between Mrs Folasade Awokiyesi and her husband, Henry.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the marriage was dissolved on the grounds of desertion, lack of care and love.

The petitioner, Folasade, 38, a teacher and resident of No. 4, Ile ileri Quarters, Adehun street, Ado-Ekiti,‎ told the court that the respondent only contracted traditional marriage with her.

She said that ‎the N10,000 paid as her dowry by the respondent was returned by her parents, while the union was blessed with two children.

Folasade told the court that the respondent, who works in Port Harcourt, would not bother to check on their welfare in Ado-Ekiti.

She told the court that the respondent had deserted her for years and did not wish to continue with the relationship due to lack of love.

The petitioner said that the respondent had taken their two children to his parents, where they were being taken care of.

Folasade prayed the court to dissolve her marriage with the respondent to enable her remarry.

The respondent, HenryAwokiyesi, a Civil Engineer, refused to honour the court summons to defend him.

The President of the court, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi, after hearing the petitioner’s testimony, observed that the respondent deliberately disregarded the summons of the court and consequently upon his action, dissolved the marriage. (NAN)
