Delta Insecurity: Uduaghan Calls On Armed Forces To Take Over From Police

In a proactive measure designed to stem the insecurity in the State, the Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, has tapped the Armed Forces to take over securing the State from the Nigerian Police Force.

The decision was made after a weekend of mayhem that saw five policemen killed, and the regional PDP vice Chairman shot by assailants. In addition, kidnap attempt was made on Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, and a Naval Commander was robbed of N500,000. Also a NYSC member was robbed, and an infant kidnapped. These were only some of the stories that made headlines after criminals went on rampage last weekend in Delta.

Most disconcerting was the fact that the criminals made away with the weapons of the slain policemen.

Police spokesman Famous Ajieh, said, “I heard something like that but the report is not very clear because there are several versions of the incidents. Hopefully, details will be clearer tomorrow.”

Officials of the Army, Navy and Air Force are said to have been sighted on the Eku-Abraka axis of Warri-Agbor highway, where hoodlums opened fire on a team of policemen.

“The governor consulted some security chiefs and decided that soldiers, complemented by naval men and men of the 61 Nigerian Airforce, joined in flushing out the hoodlums,” a source revealed.
