Delta State Pays N800 Million Monthly To Ghost Workers

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta state yesterday disclosed that no fewer than 23,000 ghost workers were draining its resources.

Uduaghan who revealed this yesterday in Asaba said that the government had in the last four years spent not more than N800million which was paid to “them” monthly as salary.

Sources say the ghost workers spread across all facets of the ministries, departments and agencies.

It was learnt that non-indigenes allegedly pay between N500, 000 and N750, 000 to gain employment.

Meanwhile the governor said that the state government through the ministry of women affairs had rehabilitated over 1,720 physically challenged people.

While disclosing that 19 orphanages were also rehabilitated, the Governor pointed out that there were few women in key positions especially at the State House of Assembly and added that the Women Affairs Ministry has been faced with challenges that require urgent need for basic attention.
