Ten persons are feared dead in an auto crash involving an 18-seater bus and a crane truck in Ebonyi on Tuesday.

According to a report by Daily Post, the accident occurred along the Abakaliki-Afikpo road, and involved a bus belonging to Ezza Local Government Area and a crane truck belonging to a Chinese company.

While the bus has the registration number NKE 28LG, the truck is registered as DKA 17YF.

An eyewitness, Mr Favour John, said the accident could be blamed on over-speeding.

“The truck was trying to turn all the way from Spera in deo junction but the bus driver, instead of stopping like others who saw it decided to drive past but unfortunately he rammed into it; it is due to over-speeding that he rammed into the turning truck,” John said.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that rescuers had to use an axe to break the door of the mangled bus to be able to rescue survivors and remove the bodies.

A pregnant woman who was said to be breathing at the time she was rescued was immediately rushed to hospital.

Investigations showed that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps had last week warned the bus driver against over-speeding.
