Edo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, escaped death narrowly when unknown gunmen attempted to kill him and his entourage in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
Reports state that a policeman, a DSS official and 3 others were injured in the attack.
The deputy governor had earlier announced his intention to run for the governorship elections to take place in September under the umbrella of the APC. It is reported that Governor Oshiomole was unhappy with this.
Reports indicate that Odubu left for Auchi and was meeting with some delegates when the gunmen suddenly appeared, firing gunshots at his convoy.
It is reported that the Deputy Governor was himself unharmed but that canopies were destroyed and 3 civilians and others were injured in the attack.
Reports also allege that the gunmen were offered N1m to carry out the deed.
