Ex-commissioner lauds Niger Govt. for reintroducing teachers’ colleges

Alhaji Muazu Bawa Rijau, former Niger Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, on Saturday lauded the decision of the state government to reintroduce teachers colleges in the state .

Rijau told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna that the plan was the best decision to move the education sector to greater heights.

He said that resuscitation of teachers college would reposition the sector to prepare for future generations.

He explained that the system would not only impact positively on the quality of education sector but ensure a better teacher education system in the state.

He noted that since the abolition of teachers training colleges, the quality of the teaching profession had dwindled.

Rijau advised the government to create a Teachers Service Commission to work out modalities to ensure best training colleges and meet up with international teaching standards.

He suggested that professional teachers, with skills and knowledge, should be involved in the resuscitation of the colleges for optimal performance.( NAN)
