Nigerian Soldiers call for Heads of Buratai, Olonisakin, Others over Embezzlement of $3.2m

Nigerian Soldiers have petitioned the Chief of Defense Staff, The Chief of Army Staff and the Army Director of Finance over the alleged embezzlement of their $3.2M and have called on President Buhari to relieve them of their duties.

The money was said to be allowances due to the soldiers for their participation in peace  keeping operations in Liberia 2015-2016 which have not been paid. These soldiers have petitioned Gen. Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (CDS), LT Gen. Buratai (COAS) and Army Director Of Finance for corruption.

A source well placed within the army, spoke to Herald News and said that the Nigerian army’s Public Relations officer. COL. SK Usman has been lying to the Nigerian people. This is in relation to Usman’s declaration that “It was not true that the Nigerian Army was owning soldiers arrears of operation allowances”,

“To cover up their secret deals they paid in 8 months operation allowances into NIBATT 37 troops domiciliary account remaining 4 months which are yet to be paid till date after 3 months of their return from the operation area.”

According to the source, “The total amount supposed be paid to each Soldier is $1332 while $200 has been paid to us when we were in Liberia as sustenance allowance then $1132 is compulsory as savings for every soldier till end of the mission”

The soldiers also said that LT Gen. Tukur Buratai had deceived them by sending in teams from the Army Headquarters to come and lie to them in the Forward Operation Base (FOB) that before the end of their pass they would receive the remaining balance. According to the source, the Soldiers want SK Usman to tell Nigerians the agencies or sponsors of the mission that are hijacking these soldiers allowances as they claim.

The soldiers also faulted their Commanding Officer COL. S Aliyu for his failure to address the troops on the issue.

With respect to the above, the soldiers have now called on the CDS, COAS and Army Director to adopt “Change begin with me” launched by President Buhari and resign or be fired by the President.
