Fans of the popular Award-winning American Hip-hop Group, Black Eyed Peas, on Saturday expressed satisfaction for the remake of the group’s first music Billboard hit, ‘Where is the love’.
The 13-year-old track which was first released in 2003 had been remade to remind people of the need for peace and acceptance of population differences in the midst of the current world crisis.
The fans who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, shared their views on the recently released track.
Jennifer obi, a marketer, told NAN that she was a fan of the group and was happy to hear about the remix of the popular unity song.
“Where is the love, was the track that gained popularity for the group and the song grabbed our attention because of its strong message.
“I saw it as a cool thing that a hip-hop group could sing about unity and love and not the common message of love, money and drugs.
“Promotion of unity was something known to be done by Michael Jackson.
“I am happy that this song has come back with modernised beats,’’ Obi said.
Christopher Benson, a student of Baze University, said that he was happy with the song because of the artists that were featured in the track.
“I love the Black Eyed Peas a lot and I am their big fan.
“They are the definition of a perfect blend because the group consists of individuals of various races.
“I was happy to watch the new music video of the ‘Where is the love’ song and I must say, the artists that were featured in the song placed the song on an A-list level.
“I am impressed by the number of top artistes that are included in the remix.
“The group has done really well with this song,” Benson said.
Rodin Akinyemi, a student of the University of Abuja, said that he appreciated the message in the song and liked the fact that the song addressed racial and religious discrimination.
“Where is the love gained popularity because of its strong message on love and peace in 2003.
“Now, the song is definitely bigger and addresses the issues of religious disputes, races, inequality and forms of discrimination.
“What amazes most of us is the fact that this song was produced and sang by a hip-hop group.
“It also featured top American stars like Usher, Justin Timberlake, The Game, Jamie Foxx, Ty Dolla $ign, Mary J. Blige and Diddy, who are top artists in hip-hop, soul and pop.
“I think that the mixture of artistes in this song is a strong symbol of us having to accept our differences,” Akinyemi said.
It was observed that the original track which was produced and released in 2003 was sang by protesters after the tragic Paris, Belgium, Turkey, Orlando, Dallas and Philando attacks in 2015 and 2016.
The remix features award winning American stars such as Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Cassie, Jaden Smith, Usher, Nicole Scherzinger, A$AP Rocky, Jessie J, French Montana, Justin Timberlake, DJ Khaled, and more.
Money obtained from the sales of ’Where Is the Love’ remix will go to the I.am.angel Foundation which is a non-profit organisation founded by Will.i.am, the lead singer of the Black Eyed Peas.
The foundation is aimed at transforming lives through education, inspiration and opportunity. (NAN)
