The FCT minister, Bala Mohammed has revoked a plot of land in the highbrow district of Maitama belonging to Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor of Kano.

According to the minister, the Governor violated the  Land Use Act and Abuja Masterplan whilst erecting structures on the property.

Kwankwaso bought the plot measuring 2,500 square metres  during the sale of government houses under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

A source close to the Development Control Department of the FCT Administration explained that the Governor later decided to expand the plot by acquiring the green area space adjoining the land, and applied to the authorities to do so.

The Governor got the approval under the condition that he would use the green space as a garden and not erect any permanent structure on the land, however the governor built permanent structures on the space in what is being called a  “flagrant contravention of the Abuja Master Plan and Green Area rules in the FCT.”

An official with the FCT said the government would decide whether to demolish the structure now that the plot has been revoked.
