Some Abuja residents on Tuesday said that the beauty, high fashion and lavished lifestyle of the reality television stars, “The Kardashians’’, were the factors that made women obsessed with them.
The Kardashian sisters who are originally known to be reality television stars, have attracted millions of social media followers over the years comprising of both men and women of all ages and walks of life.
Kim Kardashian is known to be the most famous of the sisters with the highest Net-worth and social media followers, placing her on the 2016 Times list of 30 most influential people on the internet.
Some individuals who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday expressed their views on why some people, especially females were obsessed with the Kardashian sisters.
Emeka Chukwudi, a personal stylist told NAN that he had observed that a large number of Nigerian women looked up to the famous family because of their lavished lifestyle.
“I have always wondered why these young ladies keep wasting their time watching the show of those Kardashian women instead of focusing on developing themselves.
“I have observed that it is almost impossible to go to a social gathering and find a group of ladies that are not talking about an episode of ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ and their lavished lifestyle.
“I think that the major things attracting women to the Kardashians are their fashion and lavish lifestyle,” Chukwudi said.
Zara Lawal, a professional makeup artiste told NAN that the Kardashians were appealing because they had attained luxury, without having to work too hard.
“First of all, majority of females all over the world know the Kardashians and wish they lived their life.
“If you’re on social media, you will know that in the United States, the Kardashians are more popular than President Obama.
“Secondly, the fact remains that women like expensive things and I see that as our weakness, but the Kardashians have a life which they actually didn’t have to work hard to attain.
“If we are being honest, we all wish we can easily become millionaires without having to struggle with our jobs and working so hard.
“The Kardashians are the example of what every individual actually wishes to be in all actuality.
“Being fashionable and beautiful with the ability to afford everything we want,” Lawal said.
Jasmin Osita, a nurse said that the family bond that the Kardashians portrayed in their show was also something that attracted their viewers and fans.
“We all cherish family bond and want that special care in our families.
“The Kardashians seem to possess that unique family bond that most families struggle with and they don’t have to deal with financial issues and self-confidence which majority of us have to face every day.” Osita said.
Georgina Udofia stated that the Kardashian show had created unrealistic expectations for young women of today, especially those from less developed countries like Nigeria.
“The show of the Kardashian sisters ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ should be something people watch once in a while for entertainment and not for inspiration.
“If you’re someone who knows how the family became famous, you will see no reason to feel inspired by that family.
“ Although they were quite comfortable before they became famous, I think the sudden fame amazes viewers and people must be curious to know how a family that became famous and wealthy overnight now live their lives.
“Our young ladies have now been influenced to create a fake identify on social media to literally keep up with the Kardashian lifestyle.
“This is just a distraction to their future, because the time they are using to watch and copy these ladies, which of course gives the Kardashians extra income, could be used to develop themselves.
“Young women no longer want to work hard because they see no benefit in it.
“With the influence of the Kardashians, all they want is a rich man that will marry them and give them all the money they want.” Udofia said.
The now famous American reality television stars are known by millions of people worldwide due to the success of their reality show, ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ which showcases their beauty, fashion and glamorous lifestyle.
The family came to limelight in the 1990s when their father, the late Robert Kardashian, represented former American football star, O.J. Simpson during his wife’s murder trial.
These days, the family is known for their high-class socialite status making them the royal family of Hollywood.
Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of fans of the family members and a correlated increase in their net worth as they have used their fame to create a business empire for themselves.
This includes cosmetics, fashion, club promotion, video games and more. (NAN)
