FG pays N192bn in fuel subsidy to marketers

The Federal Government has said that it has settled about N192.5bn in fuel subsidy claims to oil marketers so far in 2013.

This was a part of a statement released by the Special Adviser to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and the Minister of Finance, Paul Nwabuikwu yesterday which indicated that out of the amount, N56.8bn was settled in respect of claims in 2013, while N132.69bn was in respect of verified 2011 and 2012 arrears.

The statement also noted that the payments were made in line with the federal ministry of finance’s continued commitment   to manage fuel subsidy payments in a transparent and efficient manner that protects and enhances the interests of the Nigerian people.

“Please note that the Federal Ministry of Finance makes payments based on batches of claims as submitted by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA),” it stated.

A total of N1.1 trillion was expended on fuel subsidy for the whole of 2012 as against the N888 billion provided in the 2012 budget.
