The independent ethics committee of world football governing body FIFA has imposed life-long bans on two former Honduran officials for involvement in a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme.
Rafael Callejas, former president of the Honduran Football Association (FENAFUTH), and Alfredo Hawit, former acting president of CONCACAF, have pleaded guilty in the matter.
The committee said both officials were banned from all national and international football-related activity.
Callejas is a former member of the FIFA Marketing and TV Committee, while CONCACAF is the confederation which runs football in North and Central America, as well as the Caribbean.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hawit and Callejas were among 16 people charged last December.
They were charged with bribery schemes for marketing and broadcast rights in a dismantling of a Latin American football network by U.S. prosecutors.(Reuters/NAN)
