Former England footballer and BBC’s Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker fulfilled his promise to present the first edition of the popular show in his underwear.
The promise had been made last season when he’d tweeted that if Leicester won the league he’d present the first episode of Match of the Day for the new season in only his underwear.
When Leicester began to look more and more like winning it, he’d tried to back out of the deal all to no avail as even his employers said he’d have to do it.
So Gary Lineker obliged and presented in his underwear much to the amusement to all those watching.
“It is a one-off and a sporting miracle that has landed me in my underwear,” Lineker, who scored 95 goals in 194 appearances for Leicester, said.
“When I tweeted that silly bet back in December, I categorically knew there was zero chance of Leicester winning the league. Zero chance. It happened but it was magical, it was great.”
Lineker didn’t stay unclad all through the show though as he dressed up after the first segment. Co-hosts Alan Shearer and Ian Wright had a hard time keeping their faces straight as Lineker plodded through the show in his briefs.
People on twitter were happy that Lineker did not renege on the deal and the reception was generally favorable to the 55-year-old.
