Gov. Oshiomhole To Take Part In 10 Kilometer Okpekpe Race

Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Sport Matters, Chief Mike Itemuagbo, confirmed yesterday that the Comrade Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, over the weekend, registered to join in the inaugural edition of the Okpekpe International 10kilometres road race scheduled to hold on May 4 in Edo state.

“The Governor is very excited about the Okpekpe International Road Race. He has promised to complete the race,” said Itemuagbo.

The race which is an intiative of Itemuagbo, is meant to reveal Okpekpe and its environs and at the end of the race, twenty five thousand dollars will be awarded to the top finisher while the second to the eight placed runners in both sex category will also have cash rewards.

According to the Assistant Secretary of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Olufemi Ajao, entries from both Kenya and Ethiopia to participate in the 10km race has been confirmed.

“Apart from the entries from Kenya and Ethiopia, we have received inquiries from managers of some of the top road runners in Africa concerning the Okpekpe race. We are very certain that some established road runners are going to be part of this inaugural edition,” said Ajao.
